Our local Knights of Columbus Council is open to all Catholic men ages 18+. We meet once at month on the third Monday at 6:00 pm where we share a meal and go through current business. We sponsor many popular community events such as our Lenten Friday Fish Fries and Holiday Bingos. These events raise funds that we distribute to assist people, families, and organizations in the Babbitt, Ely, and Tower communities.
The Mission of the Knights of Columbus: To know, love, and serve God is the mission of the Catholic faithful. That mission is reflected in Section 2 of the Charter of the Knights of Columbus:
The purposes for which said corporation is formed, always consistent with Catholic values and doctrine, are the following:
The Ely Council of Catholic Women strives to walk with our patroness Mary in love, service, and humility.
Every woman of St. Anthony's is invited to become an active member of the parish CCW. We meet once a month on the fourth Tuesday at 1:00 pm (we take the summer off); if you are unable to join us at that time, or if meetings are not your thing, we have many ministries you can be involved in and support! Our major fundraisers are the Fall and Spring Thrift sales; the proceeds from them allow us to support charities and organizations both locally and throughout the world. We also have a Christmas and Spring Luncheon, support Christmas gifts for families in Appalachia, provide cookies for Meals on Wheels, celebrate some holidays at the Boundary Waters Care Center, assist with the parish Mardi Gras party, provide delicious baked goods for our Lenten fish fries, and more! There is truly something for everyone.
Please check the weekly bulletin or events calendar for meeting dates. Our membership drive is each fall, but you can contact our President Paulette Gilbert any time with any questions - (218) 343-0113 or [email protected]
We are a group of women and men who meet monthly to pray together, learn together, and support each other on our journey as disciples of Jesus Christ. We help each other to discover and use our God-given charisms, or gifts, in doing His work. We strive to help the members of our parish and those in our community in whatever way we feel called by the Holy Spirit to do so.
Some of the initiatives that have originated from our team over the years include: Donut Sundays; Prayers after mass in front of the tabernacle; Pew cushions available for those in need; Adult learning series/suppers (such as the “Mystery of the Rosary” series); Team sponsored parish brunches to benefit different community causes; Retreats; Workshops; Home visits to elderly or disabled; Spiritual book gifts to parishioners and visitors; and many more.
If you feel like this group may be a good fit for you or if you just want to join us for a meeting to see what we are all about, please contact our Director of Evangelization and Formation, Amanda DeGraef, by calling the parish office or email at [email protected].
The St. Anthony's Vocations Committee fosters vocations in the Diocese of Duluth through prayer, support of our seminarians, supporting our priests, offering support for married and engaged couples, and supporting those in formation to be religious brothers and sisters.
We host a breakfast each January and the funds are sent to aid in supporting a particular vocation. We lead a Rosary for Vocations each Thursday at 7:00 pm in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Each fall we ask parishioners to take on a Diocese of Duluth seminarian to pray for throughout the year.
Please see the bulletin for the Daily Prayer Calendar for Vocations for our Diocese. Check out the posters around the church displaying our current seminarians. Keep all of our priests, deacons, religious, and seminarians in your prayers!
"Almighty Father, we beg you for an increase in religious vocations and holy marriages in our diocese. Help us to be generous in our response to Your call. Choose from our homes those who are needed for your work, and strengthen us with the courage to say "yes" and to follow you. Help us as a diocese, as a parish, as families, to foster vocations to the priesthood, permanent diaconate, and consecrated life. We commend our prayers to our patroness, Mary, Queen of the Rosary, and ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen." - Diocese of Duluth Vocations Prayer
If you would like to join the traditional choir, the contemporary choir, or be a cantor we would love to have you. To find out when the next practice is, or for more information, please contact the office.
Every Sunday at 1:30 pm parishioners lead the praying of a Rosary at the Boundary Waters Care Center residents. If you are able to lead a Rosary on a rotating basis for our parishioners currently living there, please contact Lorraine Klun at (218) 235-8495 or (218) 365-4889. If you are unable to commit to being on the regular schedule, you can also be on the substitute list.
Human life begins at conception and continues to natural death, and life is a gift that needs to be protected. We understand that not everything goes to plan, and that following God’s will can be really difficult. We reach out to people who are in crisis moments of pregnancy, and we seek to support those who have these difficult decisions to make. We provide care and assistance to those who are sick, injured, terminally ill, or otherwise in need. We want everyone to know that there is help available at St. Anthony's and that no one is alone.
Throughout the year we take part in many pro-life ministries in the area and throughout the Diocese of Duluth. Our parish and many parish groups are in constant support of the Family Life Center, Women's Care Center, Northland FertilityCare, Star of the North Maternity Home, and many other organizations and resources that aid in assisting families, children, and elderly who are in need in some way.
If you would like to be involved in our pro-life ministries, please contact the parish office.
